Hello all,

I figured I might try to get some life back on this forum. Its been a long, cold, nasty winter up here (Central Alberta) - we even had more snow this last saturday....

Finally got the Car out and ready to go for the summer. Had a good ride around and managed to again, cover most of it with mud!

Hope everyone is able to get theres out already!

Cheers
S

First Ride in a Tomcar TM-2

A little background. I started considering a Tomcar a few years ago when I joined this forum. I still don't know if I want a RZr or a Tomcar. I am beginning to think that a 4 seat Tomcar is the way to go.

This is the write up I did for the youtube video and posting to my facebook page.

VIDEO Tomcar TM2 in the mud at Sandpit in Houston, TX

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOcB6seMocs

The Texas Gun Trust Lawyer at the Sand Pit and in the Mud! On 5-21-2014, Sean Cody, www.TexasGunTrust.com met some friends and Sven, of Tomcar USA along with The Houston Tomcar dealership and took the opportunity to answer some of his questions about the Tomcar's usefulness as a Hog Hunting UTV and its ability to handle East Texas Mud.

"Anywhere and Back" That is an interesting slogan and while it sounds great, it reeks of advertising puffery.

I was in the woodland pattern camoflage 2 Seater Tomcar that is in this video.

I have been considering a Polaris RZR 2 or 4 and the Tomcar TM2 was presneted as an alternative.

Tomcar TM2 Dry Weight: 1,526 lb
Polaris RZR 900 Dry Weight 1,190 lb

Length: 113”
108.4"

Width: 70”
64"

Height: 67”
64"

Ground Clearance 15"
13"

Not much difference between the two except one is 4wd and the other is 2WD.

I plan to use this UTV as a hunting vehicle. Hogs and whatever else. I was concerned about the ability of the Tomcar to handle the east Texas Mud and its ability to climb over obstacles. Fallen Trees, hills, rocks, etc.

I was impressed with what the TM2 Tomcar could do and did.

The video is on the long side, but I drive it though the mud, deep water (deep for me is about 3ft) and up and down the hills in the sand pit.

I drive it as fast as I could through the mud. I also drove it slow. I would be creeping along if I was hunting hogs and I wanted to know how it would handle a mud hole in the middle of the night.

I drove it over steep hills that essentially high centered the TM2 as it crested the top. This is at the end of the video. The TM2 just crawled over the big rocks on the top of the hill.

I drove it over hills slowly, I jumped the hills. I drove across the side of the hills . . . Sideways to see if it would turn over.

The Tomcar TM2 is dry. I never got soaked until one of the other Tomcars drove past me and SPLASHED me. It was a deluge. Up until that point, I was relatively dry with the exception of a few small damp spots on my left arm. That was after an hour of splashing through mud puddles.

The Tomcar TM2 did great. I want to drive it some more. In more mud. But it seems to be a great off road vehicle. It seems to do what I would expect a RZR 900 to do with the exception of having a 80mph top speed.

Another advantage of the Tomcar is that it can be registered as a Low Speed vehicle in Texas. Therefore, you can drive it on the road.

So the real question that I see: Do I need the 4x4 capability of he RZR900? Do I need the added complexity?

Rear Drum Brakes

So, while riding this weekend I had some serious soft brake pedal issues. I'm thinking a rear shoe got hung up and was dragged for a while. Beating on them seemed to reset the issue and return breaking. Was 100+ degrees and we were out in the sticks, so I was glad my bush fix worked to get us back to the trailer.

Other than a quick vacuum test, I've yet to do a deep diagnosis. I know to look at the parking break adjustment. But I know there was a drum to disk conversion that 1st Kick Motorsports was doing. I've been interested in doing this anyways. If I'm replacing a shoe and maybe a drum or two it might be better to just convert them.

Anyone here have experience with the conversion?
Any pro tips on working with these drums?

We need replacement for the top radiator hose (supply) for our Kohler engine types (2007 or 8 MY).

Unable to order from Tomcar and Ram.

Any advice would be great. Kohler engine rep says they are unique bends for those engine placements...Will any hose do from Autozone or such...? Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
